Creative Concepts Inspired By Nature Mug Series are truly inspired by the Spirit of the West. Jamie Utendorf-Hagen worked and lived on the east coast as vice president of several corporations. Yet, for over fifteen years, she vacationed in Colorado every chance that she had. She knew that the Colorado territory was where she belonged and wrote the poem My Buena Vista of the West (below) in Florida after returning from a trip. In 2001, while consulting, she met her now husband Hal Hagen and moved to the Buena Vista, Colorado area soon after. Hal's business, Aquatic Alternatives, took them to many remote areas throughout Colorado where Jamie had the opportunity to hike the high mountains with her mother-in-law Mary Hagen (author of "Hiking Trails of Northern Colorado"). The beauty of the majestic mountains, bountiful wildflowers and flowing rivers & streams inspired Jamie to create the Wildflower and Trout Series of mugs. The Wildflower Series includes photographs from Mary & Jamie's many hiking trips.

Colorado Columbine - Aquilegia coerulea - Also known as the Rocky Mountain Columbine. The flowers are amazing and spread three inches across with five white petals and five blue petals followed by slender blue spurs. Mainly grows in moist soils, rocky slopes, aspen groves, and forest clearings. Colorado's state flower grows between June and August at altitudes of 6,000 to 12,000 feet.

Scarlet Paintbrush - Castilleja miniata - Also known as the Indian Paintbrush or Great Red Paintbrush. A member of the Figwort family. Grows throughout moist mountainous meadows, in Aspen groves, and along streams. Flowers between May and September at altitudes of 6,000 to 10,000 feet.

White Globeflower - Trollius albiflorus - A member of the Buttercup family. Typically seen in high mountain wet areas, such as snow banks, along streams, lake shores and springs, in meadows and forest openings with nearby water. The flowers are saucer like and grow in clumps. Flowers between May and August at altitudes of 8,000 to 12,000 feet.

Purple Fringe - Phacelia sericea - A member of the Waterleaf family also known as the Purple Pincushion, Alpine Phacelia and Silky Phacelia. Flowers are in purple bell shaped clusters with yellow hairy sepals and purple stamens. Typically seen in disturbed soils such as along trails, on gravel slopes and in forest openings. Flowers between June and August at altitudes of 8,000 to 12,000 feet.
